I am an award winning London based illustrator. I discovered a love for art and storytelling from an early age and studied illustration at Kent Institute of Art and Design. I then went on to work in the Children’s Book publishing industry for Penguin Books (Puffin), Harper Colllins and Egmont Children’s Books amongst others, and later the charity sector supporting young people with disabilities. I work as a freelance illustrator, writer and voice over artist, and have created advertising campaign content for clients such as Premier Inn and Littlewoods. In 2014 my work won Art on the Bridge by public vote, run by Tower Bridge and Southwark Arts Forum.
My love of storytelling, my experiences of volunteering with disabled children and the publishing industry inspired me to embark on the MA course in Children’s Book Illustration. Since then I have approached galleries and institutions in London to create accessible illustration workshops for children with disabilities and in 2016 I was an award winner of the Creative Conscience Award for my work with House of Illustration run by Unilever. In the same year I was awarded a scholarship with Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
My works are inspired by my love of nature and animals. I enjoy creating scenes that are emotive, invoking memories and familiarity. I use colour and pattern to create rich, detailed work that draws the reader into the storyline. I enjoy weaving humour into my narratives, and allowing playfulness in my drawings combining both traditional and digital techniques.
